In 1906 James Gilmour, a lithographer by trade and a
watercolour artist by hobby, well known for his paintings of
Scottish, east coast fishing villages, started a printing
business at Number Two, West Regent Street in the centre
of Glasgow.
After the Great War, he was joined in the family
business by his son George.
From 1906 until the start of the Second World
War, the company specialised in fine art
reproduction, mainly calendars.
After 1945, as demand for this type of work
declined, production shifted to commercial
stationery and brochures, with the emphasis
on quality gained from their experience
with fine art reproduction.
